Christopher Van Buren
Christopher (Chris) Van Buren, CFA, has more than 40 years of experience in enterprise risk management, asset management, quantitative financial research, and engineering roles in New York and London. Chris recently retired as Principal and Chief Risk Officer of Edward Jones, a Fortune 500 financial services firm with over $2T in assets under care. Prior to Edward Jones, Chris served as Chief Risk Officer of TIAA, a Fortune 100 retirement services and global asset management firm with over $1T in assets under management. Chris has also held divisional Chief Risk Officer and senior risk management roles at UBS Asset Management, The Rockefeller Foundation, and Lehman Brothers Investment Management. Chris began his financial services career with a 15-year tenure at Goldman Sachs, specializing in fixed income research, portfolio management, and risk management. Prior to his financial services career, Chris worked for several years as an engineer supporting projects such as the F-16 and the Space Shuttle.
Chris holds a B.S.E. in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science from Princeton University, and an M.E. in Electrical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology. Chris is also a CFA charterholder, a past president of the Global Association of Risk Professionals’ Buy Side Risk Managers’ Forum, and a past member of the North American CRO Council.
Chris currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Princeton Public Library, and on the Board of Trustees of the Princeton-Blairstown Center, which provides experiential leadership education to underserved young people.
